Coaching psychology for retirement

Everyone said it would feel like a Saturday.

When people describe retirement, they describe a Saturday. No alarm, nothing in the diary, the day belongs to you. Then it arrives, and there are three hundred and sixty-five of them a year. It turns out a lot of what made Saturday good was that it was rare.

The money got forty years of planning. You just got a card.

Help with the human side of retirement

365 Saturdays is coaching psychology for retirement, created by a practitioner who spent a career in finance and will never give you financial advice. Whether you're leaving work or work is leaving you, there's a whole side of retirement no one prepares you for: it's all the things a spreadsheet can't touch.

365 Saturdays is built for people in their forties, fifties, sixties and beyond who've stopped working or are about to, and for those who left earlier than planned and are figuring out what the next twenty-plus years are for. It focuses on the realities that matter once the numbers are sorted – the human shift into a life with 365 open days.

Two in five

That is how many recently retired people said they would have wanted advice on how retirement was going to affect them emotionally. More than half had done nothing in particular to prepare.

Centre for Ageing Better and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, 2017. Thirty-nine per cent wanted emotional advice; fifty-six per cent had made no particular preparation. Nobody in the UK appears to have asked the question at that scale since. That is part of the problem, and it is why 365 Saturdays is running its own study.

One hour. If I am not the right person, I will say so and tell you who is.
